Little People, Big World

Have you guys watched this show? I know its been on a while, but I just recently discovered it when there was a marathon of it on TLC earlier this week. It's about a couple who are both dwarves (this is how they refer to themselves) and have three average height children and one child that is also a dwarf. I watched the first episode and really liked it, so then I Tivo-ed the rest and have been watching them during my late night/early morning feedings with Charlie. I've really gotten into it! Which is great, because it helps keep me awake. At first I tried just feeding him in the glider in our room while trying to read. After two weeks of my eyes crossing and barely comprehending what I was reading and even falling asleep for about an hour once, I decided I needed to do something different. So now, its Little People, Big World.

Little Man

Today has been Charlie's first experience in real pants. Now he has worn pants before, but just the stretchy little "old man pants" as I like to call them, and not real pants like with a button. Now they are still a little big, but just so cute, so I decided to go for it. And he just looks like such a little man!!! Sorry about the fuzziness of the picture... I DARE not use the flash and wake this sleeping baby. :)

Doctor Visit

Wednesday Charlie had his two week check up. I LOVE our pediatrician, she is amazing. I brought a whole notebook page full of questions and she answered every single one, even writing down the answers for me!! If anyone needs a pediatrician around the Conroe area, let me know and I will give you her info.

Charlie was already 8 lbs 8 oz (7 oz up from his birth weight) and one inch longer. I can't believe how fast he's growing!!! He also had to get stuck in the heel and get his first shot. :( The heel stick wasn't so bad, I had heard that kind of cry before. I thought, okay, this is no big deal, I can handle this.

Then came the shot.

He was laying on the table and I was rubbing his head. He looked at me and his eyes got big when the shot went in, then even bigger when the pain registered. His face turned bright red and he bawled. Wow, just stab me in the heart why don't you!!!??? I immediately picked him up and he was easily consoled, and yes he actually forgave me and still seemed to love me and want me to hold him later (or maybe he just forgot?) Anyway, we made it through the first shot with some lovin' and a few looney toons band-aids. :)

Thank You Grandma!

We just spent the most fantastic week with my mom who took such great care of all of us as I have been recovering from my C-Section. I am so blessed. She left this morning with a vote of confidence in me that we can do this without her. While right now I'm not so sure of that, it feels good to know she feels that way. I love you, Mom. Thanks for all the loads of laundry, dishes, bathroom and floor cleanings, meals, snuggles with Charlie while I napped, and support for me!

Coming Home

We came home from the hospital last Saturday...finally getting around to more pictures...

We decided he slightly looks like the pope with the white hat and cross on it that's just a little too big. :) His outfit says "For this child I have prayed" and also has a cross on it, but we never took a picture of that!! Guess we'll have to play dress up later just to get the picture...

Charles Alexander Dufilho

Charles Alexander Dufilho
April 9, 2008
5:40 p.m.
8 pounds 1 ounce
20 1/2 inches

Paul, Bethany, and Charlie are all doing well. Thank you for your prayers.

Update - 5:10

This is Robin, updating for Paul and Bethany.

The doctor is in with Bethany right now going over some pre-op details. They will take her back to the OR in 15-20 minutes for prep and surgery. Charlie should be here within an hour or so.

Please pray for health for Charlie and Bethany and peace for the whole family.

Update - 1:35pm

Well, the doctor just came in and checked Bethany again, and still no progress.  It is looking more and more likely that this will end in a C-section.  The doctor will be back around 4 or so to check one more time, and told us that if there was still no progress, we would go to the OR.  Bethany is a little disappointed, but of course wants to do whatever she has to do to keep Charlie safe.

Update - 8:48am

The doctor came around 8:30 and checked Bethany to see if he could break her water, but she still hasn't dilated or thinned to be able to do that, so he'll be back around noon.  Until then,  we wait...

Update - 8:00am

Paul here.  Just an update for everyone.  We got to the hospital at 5:00 this morning and started Bethany on pitocin at 6.  Her contractions are pretty regular and they are getting slightly more intense, but nothing really painful yet.  We're both just watching the Today Show while the gentle rhythm of the heart monitor beats in the background. The doctor hasn't come yet, so we don't know if she has progressed at all.  Keep praying that her body will react well to the pitocin and that Charlie can be born as naturally as possible.  But regardless, above all, that God will be glorified through his birth, no matter how it happens.  Another update to come soon.

Wednesday is the Day!

So I had my dr.'s appointment, and unfortunately I still have not progressed! But, the doctor had already said he did not want me to go past 42 weeks, plus, the amniotic fluid is looking a little low, so he wants to induce Wednesday, April 9th! So that is the plan! We go in at 5 am that morning!

I feel a mix of emotions right now: so excited to know it will be so soon, a little disappointed because I really didn't want to be induced, really grateful that we didn't have to make the decision to induce (the amniotic fluid thing really made it for us), and a little nervous because I have a greater chance of needing a c-section by the end of the day if I still have not dilated. But I know in the end none of it will matter because we will be holding our little boy so soon! If you think to pray for me over these next few days, please pray for peace and for my over-achieving cervix to dilate at least a little before Wednesday. :) Thank you!!!

Carly will hopefully be updating the blog for me on Wednesday so everyone can keep track of Charlie's arrival!

41 weeks preggo

Well here I am, 41 weeks pregnant! Never thought I'd make it this long and not sure I could get any bigger! My doctor has said he will not let me go past 42 weeks, so that means this is for sure my last week of being pregnant. Considering I started thinking it could be my last week of pregnancy around 38 weeks, to know that this is really my last week is a huge relief! I really can't complain though as (aside from about 10 weeks of feeling nauseous) this pregnancy has been pretty easy and uncomplicated. There are so many things for me to be thankful for and I am so blessed that 1. I was able to get pregnant 2. I've been able to carry this baby to term (and beyond) and 3. he is healthy and still doing well in there!
So my last week of pregnancy with Charlie... honestly, it feels a little bittersweet! I can't wait to hold in my arms but I will definitely try my hardest to enjoy these last few days! (if we make it that long- there is always a chance he could decide to come at any minute!) I will update after my dr's appointment tomorrow with any news!

Shredder Girl

Well I went back to work today since I don't have enough personal days to get me through until Charlie is here- since he has decided to be late for his own birthday. I don't have much left to do at work because I tried to finish up almost all of my cases before spring break, since I knew it was possible that he could come early. Well I came back after spring break and finished up the last few things last week. Now this week I really have nothing to do! So I offered to do everyone's shredding they've been accummulating throughout the year (we deal with confidential records and usually need to shred all our scrap papers). So, yes, that's what I will be doing this week at work- shredding. Oh yeah, I went to school for about six and a half years to get my master's in School Psychology, and now I'm the shredder girl! Haha, at least its an easy, no pressure kind of job I can handle! And the shredder we have is AMAZING... shreds up to like 50 pages at once, even with the staples still in! :)

Striking Similarity

Paul and I noticed something tonight while we were watching American Idol...

Jason Castro looks like Janice the Muppet! It must be those eyelashes, haha.
