Freedom's Never Free

Charlie got well just in time for us all to enjoy a big weekend of fun with friends, a trip to Market Street, and a trip to the Zoo! His new found freedom in walking has brought with it a new found independent streak. If he's strapped in his stroller, he wants down. If he's strapped into a high chair, he wants down. If he's down, he wants to explore. This has already led to a couple of accidents, resulting in two very large egg shaped lumps on his forehead. Fortunately we never had to go to the ER, but that first one left my heart pounding! By the second one, I was an old pro. I'm thinking this is how the next several months are going to go... time for a helmet maybe? ;) Here are some pictures from the weekend spent with old friends, a new baby, some zoo animals, and a couple of lumps on the head!

Sick Day

So much for thinking ear tubes would solve all of his fevers... now he has "Hand, Foot, and Mouth." Or whatever that means. All I know, is he has a fever off and on and just wants to cuddle. I hate the fever, but I'll take the cuddling any day! Here we are watching Finding Nemo last night. I knew he was feeling bad because he's never had an interest in sitting still long enough to really watch anything. But, man, that movie is intense! He didn't really know what was going on, but let me say, we won't be watching that one again for a while!

Idol Chat

We were sad to say goodbye to Danny this week.

His soulful croon really got Charlie's elbow's goin'.
Now we're rooting for Kris!
I am so passionate about Adam not winning that I will probably actually vote for Kris next week, even though I never vote.

Who's your idol pick?

The Real Mother's Day Post

Happy Mother's Day! I had a wonderful second Mother's Day. Paul let me sleep in a little and then made me coffee and he and Charlie brought me the sweetest card ever- it was a musical one with their voices recorded!! I have already listened to it several times and am hoping it will keep playing for years to come. :) We all went to church together and then went out for a nice lunch to one of my favorite places- Panera Bread. Yeah, I'm real fancy. Oh and I got that new camera I was wanting! Here are some pics from our lunch, though Charlie was not feeling very cooperative with the whole looking at the camera thing!All during church I was remembering my first Mother's Day when we dedicated Charlie to the Lord at church and he was just a teeny little thing in his plaid overalls. My how things have changed!

Happy Mother's Day to our wonderful moms and Charlie's wonderful grandmothers!!! We love you and wish you a very Happy Mother's Day! Paul and I are both so thankful to have loving Christian mothers that raised us to know the Lord by both their words and actions. We are so thankful for you and love you very much.

Happy Mother's Day to all you moms! If you haven't called your mom yet, go DO IT NOW!! :)

Charlie's Big Day

Here are some pictures from Wednesday when Charlie had his ear tubes put in. When we arrived at the hospital we found a huge waiting room with big windows and LOTS of toys. Charlie went to town! I have never seen him so at ease in an unfamiliar place. Which was great because he was very distracted and never even though about wanting to eat!

By the way, I highly recommend Texas Children's Hospital in Houston. It was overall a really great experience, and his doctor, Dr. Larrier, was amazing. Its so nice to know we have such a great children's hospital so close.

We waited for a LONG time.And then, after all the waiting and signing papers, they took him back for a brief 25 minutes and we were called back just as he was waking up.
Waking up was a little rough, but as soon as we got in the car, he fell asleep for the hour ride home and stayed asleep another 2 1/2 hours!

Once he woke up again, he was running a little fever, but seemed to be feeling great!

Today he is back to his sweet old self again!Thank you for praying!

Cleaning and Praying

Today has been a day of cleaning and praying.

I'm cleaning because I'm on day two of my Spring Cleaning Party! So far I have cleaned all the windows and light fixtures, and completely deep cleaned the living room- including organizing and purging two closets, dusting everything including the picture frames on the wall, and finally getting those fingerprints off my TV cabinet doors. It feels so good to just simplify and get rid of all the stuff that we really don't need! I have these great before and after pics that you will probably never see because they are STUCK on my camera. Along with some pretty cute pics of Charlie in this new shirt I got him. Yeah I'm bummed, but I'm *hoping* this means I'll get a new one for Mother's Day from my loving hubby *hint, hint* ;)

I'm praying because tomorrow is a big day. Charlie is having very minor surgery to put ear tubes in at 9:30 in the morning. We have to be there (about an hour away) by 7:30 am and he cannot eat anything after midnight tonight except clear liquids until 6:30 am. That's going to be difficult because Charlie wakes up early and hungry. But that's the least of my worries. Please, please pray for him. And pray for us. Paul is as cool as a cucumber, and I love that about him- he's keeping things in perspective for me, reminding me that this is so simple and quick and that the benefits are going to be huge (they really are). But if I allow it too, my mind takes me places I'd rather never go. And I've been praying it away all day long, praying for protection and peace. Will you please join me?

I lift my eyes to the hills-
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord
the Maker of heaven and earth.
He will not let your foot slip-
he who watches over you will not slumber;
indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
The Lord watches over you-
the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.
The Lord will keep you from all harm-
he will watch over your life;
the Lord will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.
Psalm 121 (emphasis added)

simple-mom-spring-cleaning-party
Anyone out there ready for a good spring cleaning? I know I am! I'm ready to roll up my sleeves, pull back a pony tail, and tackle those junk drawers and closets that have gone without notice for months. Watch out fingerprints on the doors and windows, and layer of dust on the fans! Tomorrow I will be all over you! But for now, I am preparing and resting up. Just thought I'd share so you could check out the Spring Cleaning Party happening over at Simplemom.net if you're interested! And to keep me accountable check back throughout the week and I'll share my progress. Hope you had a wonderful weekend!
