Red Envelope Day

Today I put a red envelope in the mail addressed to:
President Barack Obama
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Ave NW
Washington , D.C. 20500

On the back I wrote:

"This envelope represents one child who died because of an abortion. It is empty because the life that was taken is now unable to be a part of our world."
And a lot of other people did too. Its not too late if you want to be a part of this silent protest.

Who's The Wean-ee?

I decided that I wanted to finish breastfeeding by the time Charlie was one. Our pediatrician said we could start milk by 11 months. So he now drinks milk with breakfast, lunch, and dinner! He's done so well with the transition, and while he doesn't drink his entire cup full, he never tries to nurse and it doesn't seem like we're missing anything. It's two weeks until his birthday and I have two feedings left to give up- first thing in the morning, and right before bed.
I'm not ready to give up the bedtime one yet- he's been such a finicky sleeper from day one and I don't want to mess with the 11 hour stretch we've got going!
But wait... I'm not ready to give up the morning one yet either... he wakes up around 6:30 and usually the only energy I can muster is to plop him into bed with me and nurse him/sleep until we're both a little more awake and a little less crabby.
I know I can keep going as long as I want with these two feedings, but I'm really ready just to have my body back to myself for a while, you know? Hmmmm I may just have to suck it up and get out a cup of milk in the morning... any advice mommas?

Weekend Getaway

Here I am less than a week after our anniversary getaway- longing again for some time at the pool, or to wake up after 8 to my hubby, coffee in hand. Enjoying a long, quiet, big breakfast. A museum, lunch, shopping, all just the two of us. It was good. Very good.

While I love love LOVE being a stay at home mom to our little man, spending some quality time with his daddy is just what we both needed. We did a whole lotta nothing and enjoyed all of it! We watched a movie on demand (Slumdog Millionaire- SO good!!!) and the 30 Rock we missed from the night before, all right from our hotel room. We ordered room service, had a massage, and the next day went to the "Birth of Christianity" exhibit at the Houston Museum of Natural Science and then to Ikea. It was a great night away... and no, I didn't miss Charlie too much... I think I could have even done another night! :)

I wasn't allowed to take pictures of the actual exhibit in the museum, but I just had to take this one in the gift shop... Deluxe Miracle Jesus... notice the glow in the dark hands!

Rainy Day

What do you do on a rainy day?
You could sit on a window sill...
Climb on Dad's guitars...
(Yikes, I did not even know he could do this!!!)
Pull out every toy...
Look at Mom like she's crazy for following you around with the camera...
Give Daisy a hug, cause you know, dogs get sad when it rains...
(look, they're the exact same height!)
Play a rousing game of Peek-a-Boo!

What do you do on a rainy day?

11 Months Old

Here's our big 11 month old boy! I swear he's growing right before my eyes. Every day is a new adventure for Charlie with cabinets to explore, words to learn, and foods (or not foods!) to taste! Yesterday was actually when he turned 11 months old but I'm a little behind because I have been suffering from some kind of acute eye infection that happens to not be cute at all because I now have to wear my glasses instead of my contacts until it heals. I'm really fine with it though as long as the stabbing pain of yesterday is gone. I am much better today and getting used to wearing glasses again... its been awhile, and Charlie has pulled them off my face more times than I can count. We went out on the deck today for a little 11 month photo shoot and he was being quite the clown... I gave him a little piece of a flower and he kept "pretending" to put it in his mouth and then laughing hysterically when I would playfully push his hand down and tell him no. He kept doing it over and over and not actually trying to eat the flower. I thought it was hilarious and kept clicking away at the camera...

Less than a month until he turns one and I can't even believe it!

The Bachelor: Bringing People Together

No matter how you felt about Jason Mesnick's fateful decision revealed Monday night, one thing is for sure: if you watched it... you were talking about it Tuesday. And if you watched last night's show with Molly and Jason in love, the tent where "nothing happened" and Naomi wanting to punch him in the face... I'm guessing you were talking about it today with someone. I talked about it with my church pianist tonight!!! Who even knew she was a Bachelor fan??

This season of the Bachelor has been especially meaningful for me as every Monday night after the two hour episode I spent the next half hour on the phone with one of my very best friends, Kerri. Our conversations went from laughing hysterically at the side pony tail/tank top/scarf look to the awkward kisses and Stalker Shannon. And then they moved to deeper things like our spiritual walk, family relationships, life's problems, and future plans. When I realized I would be in San Antonio for the night of the finale, Kerri drove down from her place in Austin so we could watch the (three hour!!!!) ending to these last three months. It was so good to see her and so much fun. And wow was it dramatic- they weren't kidding when they said it was THE MOST DRAMATIC FINALE EVER.

Kerri and I together again... we hadn't seen eachother in almost a year!

The delicious and chocolatey homemade "Broken-hearted Bachelorettes." Clever, I know.

Charlie, hiding from all the drama under a chair.

So, did you watch it? What did you think? Here's my two cents: I think if Jason really was feeling that torn up about it all, he SHOULD NOT have proposed to Melissa. I don't blame him for realizing he actually loved Molly and doing something about it... better now than years down the road. But seriously, did he have to propose??? She had every right to be angry. And as for Molly and Jason? Only time will tell! Oh and you better believe I'll be watching Jillian coming this May!

So, what did you think? In the spirit of bringing people together... let's talk about it!
